COVID-19 Vaccination - 2021 EXT
Enrollment in this course is by invitation only
About This Course
The worldwide COVID-19 epidemic is far from over. Currently we experience a new wave that is driven by evolving mutants. Worldwide more than 125 million people have been infected, and we are approaching 3 million deaths due to COVID-19. The current available vaccines are highly effective, but we face a new challenge since some new variants have the potential of increasing infectiousness and decreasing the efficacy of specific vaccines.
To defeat this epidemic, the major challenge is to vaccinate the entire world as fast as possible, assuring that no country is left behind and a fair vaccine distribution including all low income countries is achieved. Right now we are far away from that goal since 16% of the wealthy population has cornered 70% of the available doses for the five leading vaccines in 2021.
We provide you with background information on the COVID vaccine development, summarize the up-to-date relevant data about the frontrunner vaccines in use, the challenge of evolving variants, the pipeline of new vaccines and discuss the topic of COVID vaccination for people living with HIV.
