About This Course

Globally, there are around 7 million new syphilis infections every year, among them around 900 000 pregnant women who can infect newborns by vertical transmission.

Unrecognized or untreated primary syphilis can progress to secondary syphilis with a variety of clinical presentations which may resemble other STIs. After a long latency period even late/tertiary syphilis may occur, and neurosyphilis can occur at any stage.

Congenital syphilis - although preventable- is still a major public health concern with an estimated yearly global number of more than 600 000 cases.

Profound knowledge of how to manage all syphilis manifestations of all stages of disease including neonatal syphilis is extremely important.

This syphilis course is the last one of our 2023 series of STI courses. It was prepared by Dr. Clemens Richter, CME consultant AHF in cooperation with and reviewed by Dr. Adele Schwartz Benzaken, Senior Global Medical Director and Dr. Fernanda Fonseca, Associate Global Medical Director, and is awarded with 3 AHF CME credit hours.
