About This Course

In July 2025 the IAS conference on HIV science took place in Kigali, Rwanda. The conference was showing scientific breakthroughs amid a funding crisis that threatens decades of progress. During that conference a united, resilient path forward among all funding challenges was discussed. .

Lenacapavir (LEN), a twice-yearly injectable PrEP option, dominated conversations. An access agreement to supply doses at no profit for up to 2 million people was announced. WHO recommended LEN for HIV prevention in new guidelines. Trial data were presented showing high efficacy and strong preference for LEN among diverse populations, including adolescents and pregnant women. A number of other new WHO guidelines dealing with antiretroviral therapy, postnatal prophylaxis and monkeypox were presented. Many other important new study results were presented and overview presentations given on topics like ART simplification strategies, ART and weight gain, HIV/TB, HIV drug resistance and update of the development of new ART options. .

In this course we summarize the most relevant news from that conference for your daily practice. The course was prepared by Dr. Clemens Richter, CME consultant AHF in cooperation with Dr.Adele Schwartz Benzaken, Senior Global Medical Director and Dr. Fernanda Fonseca, Associate Global Medical Director, and is awarded with 5 AHF CME credit hours.
