Women's health and HiV pediatrics 2022 - EXT
Enrollment in this course is by invitation only
What about the course (“women’s health and HIV Pediatrics 2022”)
Women’s health is closely connected to child’s health. Adolescent girls and women need to know how to effectively prevent HIV, sexual transmitted diseases and unintended pregnancy. And in case they acquire HIV infection, they need optimal management and support during pregnancy and the breastfeeding period in order to prevent mother to child transmission of HIV. The 2020 IAS AIDS conference that was followed by a COVID-19 conference was a virtual meeting due to the COVID-19 epidemic. Many interesting new data were presented. This new course is summarizing most important news dealing with a number of selected topics regarding HIV prevention, care and comorbidities.
Another pilar of prevention of vertical transmission is postnatal prophylaxis. And when prevention failed and the child gets infected, the next challenge is to secure early infant diagnosis, because when diagnosis is missed, 50% of undiagnosed children will die before their second birthday
A very sobering fact is that only 59% of children living with HIV know their status compared to 82% of adults and only 40% of children are virally suppressed compared to 67% of adults.
In this course we discuss these relevant aspects of women’s health regarding prevention and management together with an update on child pediatrics 2022 including postnatal prophylaxis, early infant diagnosis and pediatric management of HIV and the most relevant opportunistic infections and coinfections.
This comprehensive 3 weeks course is highly recommended to be followed by all AHF healthcare workers involved in HIV care and is awarded with 5 AHF CME credit hours. It was prepared by Dr. Clemens Richter, CME consultant AHF in cooperation with and reviewed by Dr. Adele Schwartz Benzaken, Senior Global Medical Director and Dr. Fernanda Fonseca, Associate Global Medical Director.
